What Makes Me, Me ?

When writing an introduction, my first thought is what makes me, me ? I’m Kevin Perez, a senior at Miami Lakes Educational Center. I pride myself in being passionate, caring, and hardworking. These three qualities among others have put me in the position where I am now looking into college and the rest of my future.

Over the years, I have grown academically and personally. Looking back at freshman me I wouldn't even recognize him, but that’s what growth is.  My progression throughout high school has been defined from where I spend most of my time.

In my school, I’m in the Journalism strand in the Cambridge Academy. I have always found sharing information and opinions, in a respectful way, are vital to everyday life. In this strand I have been able to advance my writing, editing, and design skills while also working together with others and understanding what it takes, and means to be a journalist. 

The skills and advancements I have made through the Journalism strand and AICE Media Studies AS Level last year have left me on track to complete the A Level for Media Studies this year. As I continue to learn the foundations of camera use and video production, I'm looking forward to putting my creative ideas into practice for my upcoming piece. 

On the personal side, I am someone who enjoys watching sports as it is an escape from reality from me and I’m also an advocate on the importance of mental health.

I have been able to continue my love for sports in journalism through articles and different forms of media content. Earlier this year, I also got accepted into Youth4Wellness at Yale which focuses on promoting awareness on mental health and the misuse of opioids. 

Where I am now though would not have been possible without my family and friends. The people I surround myself with each and every day support me and all my endeavors and I will always continue to do the same. I am someone who is family oriented and I value spending time with those closest to me.
